AHA Instructor Renewal Course – Instructions and Requirements
The American Heart Association (AHA) Instructor Renewal Course is a shorter course designed to help current instructors stay up to date with the latest guidelines. It helps instructors refresh their knowledge and teaching skills for courses such as BLS, ACLS, or PALS.
Before You Begin the Renewal Process:
To qualify for instructor renewal, you must meet the following requirements:
-
Be aligned with the Shelden Clinical Simulation Center.
-
Have a current (not expired) AHA Instructor card.
-
Have taught at least 4 courses as a Lead or Assistant Instructor within the last 2 years.
-
Pass the Provider written exam with a score of 84% or higher.
Instructor Monitoring Requirement:
To complete your renewal, you must be observed while teaching part of a course or a skills session. This monitoring will be done by a Training Faculty member.
How to Schedule Your Monitoring:
-
Check the class schedule for your discipline above (BLS, ACLS, or PALS).
-
Find 2-3 classes that fit your schedule.
-
Email the date(s) and time(s) that work for you to lifesupporttraining@umsystem.edu.
Once we receive your email, we will confirm your monitoring date and written exam within 2 business days.
